EXCLUSIVE: What DSS report says about Oshiomhole by Fredrick Nwabufo

EXCLUSIVE: What DSS report says about Oshiomhole by Fredrick Nwabufo

Published

The depth of filth in the APC primary election can contain a tsunami. The “inglorious” exercise and its resulting attrition betray the anti-corruption sloganeering of the Buhari administration.
A lot has been said about the alleged involvement of Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman, in the corruption shin-dig. But what is the position of the DSS? The secret police interrogated Oshiomhole, and really did ask him to resign over allegations of bribery.
Was it right in making this demand of him? What effectuated the agency to toe such a controversial and unpopular path?
Well, the DSS has submitted the report of its investigations to the presidency, and it recommended the prosecution of the APC chairman. The new DSS chief is said to be a man of integrity and unbending principle, and will not brook any compromise.
The case against Oshiomhole is that he allegedly received a total bribe of $55 million, some of which were allegedly remitted into proxy accounts, one of them his niece’s. Though some party chieftains claim it is $80 million. Hope Uzodinma, APC Imo governorship candidate, was alleged to have paid a bribe of $3 million while Rochas Okorocha offered $500,000, which was rejected. Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state governorship candidate, was also alleged to have offered $5 million. And one Farouk Adamu is alleged to be the “coordinator”, who also allegedly shared $17 million bribe from Zamfara with Niyi Adebayo and some party leaders. The DSS report contains, much, the details of the transactions.
But why does the presidency appear lethargic in this matter? Why is there no reaction at this point?
I believe this is a test, which if flunked would pooh-pooh whatever credibility this government has left. Though President Muhammadu Buhari seems resolute about allowing Oshiomhole face the law, there seems to be counter forces within the presidency and in the APC against his resolve.
Can Buhari prevail? Will Buhari prevail? Or will this be another Babachir Lawal?
There is a sore argument that the case is a party affair; hence should not be the subject of a security probe or prosecution. But does the APC exist on Mars? Is the party a law onto itself? Does it exist outside Nigerian laws? If a crime has been supposedly committed the offender must submit to the law of the land, and not the APC law.
Really, it is a mockery of the anti-corruption war if the presidency succumbs to pressure and ride with the current on this issue. It will be another own goal. In fact, if the APC government deodorises the alleged corruption in its own house, it cannot fumigate it elsewhere.
The silence of the presidency is deafening. It must realise that this case has gone beyond the party. It is now an issue of state interest, and should be treated as such.
But will the presidency ride against this tide?

2019 Presidency: Why Buhari, APC Ordered Security To Search Me – Atiku

2019 Presidency: Why Buhari, APC Ordered Security To Search Me – Atiku

NAIJA NEWS

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of ordering the security personnel that searched his (Atiku’s) private Jet.
The Wazirin Adamawa had revealed how he was intimidated by security agents on his return from Dubai on Sunday
Speaking through the Atiku Campaign Organization in a statement yesterday, the former Vice President alleged that the deployment of security men was directly ordered by the President in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief, being the only one so authorized to do so.
He also observed that the search of the aircraft had been canvassed in a statement issued by the All Progressives Congress, APC, a week ago.
The Atiku Campaign Organization said, “On November 5, 2018, exactly a week ago today, the All Progressives Congress released an official statement accusing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of having strategy meetings for the purpose of moving ‘illicit cash’ into Nigeria and they asked the security services to investigate HE Atiku Abubakar and his plane.
“To quote from the APC’s statement, the ruling party said ‘Our intelligence, anti-graft and security agencies must be awake to their responsibility of investigating the Dubai meeting.
‘Cash-and-carry politicians must be prevented from moving illicit cash around to induce voters and sponsor election violence and rigging.
“Again, relevant agencies must check suspicious movement of cash both locally and internationally by politically exposed persons under the guise of a ‘Dubai meeting’ or any clandestine meeting’
“They thereafter asked the security services to search aircraft belonging to members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“That statement evinced an obvious premeditated intention by the APC and its Federal Government to deliberately embarrass the former Vice President by invading his plane with security personnel and possibly to set him up for the crimes they had already officially accused him of in their statement.
“The official denial by the All Progressives Congress and the Presidency of any hand in the ordeal of the former Vice President is put to lie when you examine their statement of last week which was clearly what was implemented against the former Vice President. It also shows that both parties have no credibility and will do or say anything to further their interests.
“The statement by the aviation ministry that the search of Atiku Abubakar’s plane is ‘routine’ is an afterthought that does not hold water for the simple reason that the PDP Presidential candidate has been flying in and out of Nigeria without ever receiving such a treatment until the APC released its statement.
“This event raises grave concerns about using government services for purely political purposes and what this portends for the conduct of free and fair elections in February 2019, and shows as hollow President Buhari’s promise to superintendent over credible polls.
“The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation wishes to remind Nigerians and the international community that by Nigeria’s constitution, only the President can order the deployment of military and paramilitary personnel as Commander-in-Chief.
“That, combined with the statement released last week, is proof beyond reasonable doubt that what happened to Atiku Abubakar was not a routine exercise, but a deliberate attempt to intimidate him by those who have seen the political handwriting on the wall.”

ASUU Strike: Fayemi Speaks On Why Union Should Not Go On Strike

Fayemi Lists What Buhari Has Done In The Education Sector

As the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), strike enters its second week, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has declared the union as faring better under the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.
He added that, the union, ought not to have embarked on strike action.
Fayemi who spoke with journalists in Paris at the end of the President’s interactive session with Nigerians living in France, said “If you talk about tertiary education, ASUU is on strike, but you ask yourself, why is ASUU on strike. ASUU claimed that it is on strike because it wants improvement in the fortunes of education in Nigeria and that government has not lived up to expectations.
“I made bold to say that no government has done as much as this government has done. Not just for ASUU, but for tertiary education in our country.
“Is it enough? Absolutely, it’s not going to be enough. We have to keep doing more.
“But ask yourself what was the average wage in the University system before. A university professor earn more than me as a governor. My salary as a governor is N500,000. Most university professors earn about the same amount if not more.
“Yes, you may argue that there are other opportunities available, there are also other opportunities that are available that are not being taken advantage of by our academics. I can say a little bit about this because this is my terrain.
“I do not think that ASUU on its own strength can argue that government has not done well. There is hardly any institution in Nigeria today, including states universities, that have not had the benefit of intervention.
“It is either the government is building an auditorium or rehabilitating a laboratory, or improving on students hostels in virtually all the universities as I speak to you. That’s what TETFUND does via their intervention funds. That again is not the complete solution.” he said
The governor said that there is need to revisit a whole lot of things about education policy in the country.
He added “Can we continue to maintain a tuition-free education in Nigeria, in even Federal universities. What UNESCO pushes for, what most universal human rights positions argue for, is that basic education should be free. Basic education is free in Nigeria right up to secondary schools.
“As for free university education, I’m not so sure that is what we really need right now. But in order to address that, we also must elevate the place of technical and vocational education in our country so that we don’t see those that go for technical education as inferior to those who go to universities.
“Our educational system should focus on functionality rather than just certificates. I think this is what ASUU and other drivers of change in our economy should be arguing for.
“Can we add more resources to education budget? Absolutely we can. But when you have competing needs, you cannot have everything that you want. And this is something ASUU needs to know,” he said
He also pointed out that education is the responsibility of the three tiers of government and not just that of the Federal Government.
“When we talk about 5% of the budget going into education, we often do not take into account recurrent expenditure, we focus on capital expenditure.
“Secondly, we exclusively think that the Federal Government alone is responsible for education. Education is a responsibility across the board and there are states budgets that must be factored into that total picture.
“Also there is local governments budget that must be factored into that picture because basic education is the responsibility at the lower level of government.” he said
On President Muhammadu Buhari’s participation at the Peace Forum in Paris, Fayemi noted that peace is very important to development.
“I feel it’s appropriate for President Macron to invite our President for the forum,” he said

We’ll Restore Your Devastated Communities, President Buhari Assures IDPsBuhari Addresses Ganduje Bribery Video In France
Events took a new development yesterday, when President Muhammadu Buhari broke silence on the bribe-taking videos of Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
He said the security agencies were vetting the video and that action would be taken on the matter soon.
The President’s response on the Ganduje videos followed a remark by a Kano student in France, who lauded the achievements of the governor, especially on scholarship, and advised the federal government to emulate the governor.
But the president reportedly asked the student if he had watched the governor’s videos allegedly receiving bribe in dollars.
“That aside, haven’t you watched the videos of the governor stuffing dollars under his gown?” the president asked rhetorically.
“We gave the videos to security agencies for vetting. And we will surely take action on the matter if he is found guilty.”
